Snider Hockey offers numerous Alumni programs and initiatives to keep our alums engaged with the Foundation as they pursue postsecondary and professional opportunities after graduating from high school. Our education team strives to celebrate the successes of our Alumni while offering continuous support to ensure all of our alums stay on a path to accomplish their goals while staying active with Snider Hockey.
Alumni Programs and Special Events
Beginning in 2015, Snider Hockey started providing financial and academic support to Alumni enrolled in postsecondary education programs. Accepted students receive scholarships to cover costs associated with their continuing education including books, fees, and transportation. They are also assigned an Alumni Counselor, who is responsible to support the student remotely through this transition.
Game Ready allows Snider Hockey to focus on our most committed and deserving students, while also tapping into the real power that financial and academic support can have over a student’s decision to apply to postsecondary programs, and what type of program to attend. Game Ready also allows students to continue to remain connected the Snider Hockey community, even if they cannot be physically present.
Goals & Assists
The Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation and the Give Something Back Foundation have partnered together to form Goals and Assists. This program aims to expand the financial support available to Snider Hockey students throughout their postsecondary education. Students accepted and remain enrolled into the Goals and Assists Scholarship program can apply for full or partial scholarships to cover tuition, room & board and fees at our partner colleges, Kutztown University, West Chester University, Elizabethtown College, and University of the Sciences.
Students selected to receive the Goals and Assists Scholarship will continue to have access to all Alumni programs offered through Snider Hockey including:
- Designated Alumni Counselor; in-person check ins with Counselor each semester
- Ongoing, individual, and remote support throughout each semester
- Pre-orientation check in (placement tests, financial aid, class selection, housing)
- Assistance obtaining placement in on-campus support programs (ACT 101, etc.)
- Orientation program summer before freshman year (Snider Hockey or on-campus, if offered)
- Financial support through the Game Ready program
- Internship and job shadowing opportunities
- Other Leadership Development Opportunities

Snider Hockey Over Time (S.H.O.T.)
Snider Hockey is dedicated to fostering and supporting a student’s love of hockey throughout their educational career. The Snider Hockey Over Time (S.H.O.T.) Scholarship supports accepted students to financially cover dues associated with playing club hockey at the collegiate level.
The Snider Hockey Alumni Training Camp will offer extra on- and off-ice training for scholarship candidates over summer break. There are also other leadership development opportunities offered throughout the year and summer for accepted students.
Alumni Hiring (Part-Time Positions)
Snider Hockey offers selective opportunities for our high school graduates to become part-time employees of Snider Hockey. Upon stating interest, the student will be placed with a Postsecondary or Alumni Counselor to work through interview prep, resume/cover letter building, and application prep.
After candidates begin to move through the application process, they will be invited to a two-day Alumni Staff Orientation, where they will attend workshops on trauma-informed care, best vs. worst coaches exercises, team-building, boundary setting, and practice planning.
All Alumni hires will also partake in a week of shadowing with more experienced employees. The goal of this portion of the on-boarding process is to ensure that the candidates to be as prepared as possible to take on full responsibilities at the rink.
Snider Hockey is dedicated to supporting the comprehensive development of each of our students. One of the ways we at Snider Hockey celebrate this individual growth is by hosting our Senior Night every June. This is one of our most prestigious events of the year, where we celebrate the success of both our high school and college graduates.
Each graduate is individually recognized with a gift. Selected students speak about their personal journeys and congratulate the graduating classes. Students and families celebrate with Snider Hockey staff, Board members, established Snider Hockey Alumni, and influential Philadelphia community members with food and networking. One or two High School Seniors are chosen as recipients of the Ed Snider Leadership Award. The recipients represent characteristics most valued by Mr. Snider: work ethic, determination, resiliency, respect, and leadership.
This night marks a student’s official transition from Snider Hockey participant in high school to Snider Hockey Alumni.
(List of former Award Recipients)
Every year since 2012, Snider Hockey has hosted the Annual Alumni Game. Former participants are invited back to partake in an afternoon of hockey games, revisiting both lasting friendships and former rivalries. After battling it out on the ice, the Alumni celebrate a shared dinner as a celebration of their time with Snider Hockey. Two awards: The Snider Hockey Family Award and the Snider Hockey Ambassador Award are also given out.
As part of our larger Alumni Programming, this event is meant to strengthen and maintain those connections and supports that were fostered during the Alum’s participation in Snider Hockey. It is a fun and engaging way to cultivate an established Snider Hockey Alumni Community as we look to expand opportunities and programs for this group.

Snider Hockey Training Camp
During summer break, Alumni students who are interested in pursuing participation in collegiate hockey programs are invited to partake in a 3-day training program run by our top Hockey and Education staff. The days are split into four sessions: on-Ice, off-Ice, educational programs, and lunch. On-ice and off-ice sessions will concentrate on preparing students for the rigorous training programs they will encounter on campus. Educational sessions will focus on campus-life, time-management, life-skills, etc. Individual, one-on-one support with staffed Alumni Counselors is also available during this time.
Any Snider Hockey alums who are interested in becoming involved with our Snider Hockey Alumni programs are encouraged to contact our Alumni Coordinator, Erin Ficca, at EFicca@SniderHockey.org or by calling 215-952-5271.
