Over 500 students attend Snider summer camps across Philadelphia in 2025

Over 500 student-athletes participated in nearly 20 different weeklong Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education summer camps throughout June, July, and August this year, gaining access to valuable on- and off-ice training, numerous life skills lessons, various academic activities, engaging field trips, and much more! Check out some highlights from another outstanding year of Snider summer camps.

Field Trips

Students from elementary school and middle school visited the interactive exhibits of the Franklin Institute and Please Touch Museum where they participated in immersive experiences, learning more about topics such as space, sports science, and engineering.

Along with these field trips, Snider students found other reasons to get out of the rink this summer, including college visits, career trips, and a day at Philadelphia Outward Bound School.

The Start-Up Squad

Students attending the Snider Girls 14U Summer Camp in August spent their off-ice time learning about entrepreneurship by working together to design, produce, and pitch small business ideas. After starting the week hearing from their coaches who had started their own small businesses, the campers broke into groups to start brainstorming and developing marketing materials, budgets, products/services, and detailed business plans!

Students relied on teamwork and creativity before the camp culminated with a mini market at Penn. Coaches, parents, and other campers attended the mini market, deciding how to spend their Monopoly money based on each group’s pitch. Group winners were announced in a variety of categories, including highest overall earners, most creative product, and best business model.

Pat Capone Memorial Camp

Each year, the Capone family celebrates the love and legacy of their loved one by funding a week of Snider summer camp. This year, the Pat Capone Memorial Summer Camp featured Goalies, Learn to Play students, and SHL Girls taking the ice at Penn. On Wednesday, July 16, the Capone family joined us at camp to witness first-hand the impact their donation has on our student-athletes. Thank you to the Capone family for your continued support and generosity!

CPR and Stop the Bleed Workshop

In coordination with Penn Medicine and The Mobile CPR Project, Snider High School students received some practical experience that could help save a life. Campers cycled through a number of first aid stations, learning important real-world skills that they can use during emergency situations.

Camp Olympics

For the second straight year, our younger campers participated in a series of team competitions throughout the week that helped build team identity and introduce a competitive spirit at summer camp.

Each day, teams competed in a variety of games and competitions on and off the ice, mirroring the Olympic games, culminating in a coach dunk contest at the end of each week!
