Scott Tharp - President/CEO

Scott Tharp was named President/CEO of the Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in May 2007. He formerly served as the Executive Director of Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education, which for many years has been a national model for youth enrichment programming. With a similar mission to Snider, this organization is known for providing quality tennis and educational programming to thousands of children, many coming from underserved inner-city communities. Scott is devoted to public service and has long believed that sport can be a powerful force in youth development - when coupled with the delivery of life skills and academic programming, the return in social capital is immeasurable.

Scott attended Old Dominion University and the College of William & Mary where he majored in Communication. He obtained a graduate certificate in Public Administration at Wilmington University. Scott is a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He currently serves as an officer on the Board of Directors of the Goals & Assists Foundation, a 501 c 3 non-profit devoted to providing post-secondary scholarships to deserving Snider students. He also is a Trustee of the Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education Support Organization and the Chairman of the PTR Foundation, which is the charitable arm of the Professional Tennis Registry. Scott has served as an advisor for the Sports Management programs at Queens University and Methodist University, and on the Board of Directors for USTA/Middle States. He was inducted into the Unites States Tennis Association/Middle States Hall of Fame in 2015 and was the 2007 recipient of Thomas Jacoby Service Award from the Philadelphia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Jan Koziara - Executive Vice President

Jan Koziara joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education as Manager, Hockey Operations in January of 2007 to oversee the Snider's on and off-ice programming and assist in the development of strategies to expand the reach of the Foundation. He was named Director, Hockey Operations in 2008. Prior to joining Snider, Jan worked as a management consultant for six years in New York City and Boston.

Jan learned to play hockey in Philadelphia at Rizzo Rink and went on to play and coach Division III College Ice Hockey at Tufts University while earning a B.A and M.A. in Economics. While living in New York, he coached both girls and boys ranging in age from 3 to 63 while an instructor and coach with Central Park Ice Hockey. In 2010, Jan was certified as a USA Hockey Master Coach (Level 5) after writing a thesis that investigated ways Snider could implement USA Hockey’s Athletic Development Model. Katy Hsieh - Vice President, Development

Katy Hsieh joined the Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education Development staff in May 2015. An advocate for youth development through sport and education, Katy is responsible for overseeing all fundraising and development functions of Snider including donor engagement, grant writing, and special events. She also facilitates corporate partnerships, scholarship funding, and tax credit programs. Prior to her time at Snider, Katy served as the Development Officer at the Rodney Street Tennis & Tutoring Association in Wilmington, DE. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Marketing Communication from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. Katy coaches U14 girls lacrosse as well as K-5 soccer. Katy can be reached at

Chris Newton - Director, Evaluation & Program Support

Chris Newton joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in June 2007 as an Intern. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Louisville with a M.S. in Sport Administration, Newton became the first Coordinator, Hockey Programs for Snider. He was promoted to Manager, Hockey Programs in July 2012 and is now responsible for providing structure, support, and insights to the entire organization to ensure that Snider has the tools, vision, and resources to maximize its impact in his role as Director of Evaluation & Program Support. Chris is a native of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada and completed his undergraduate studies at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, NS where he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Finance. He also holds a Certificate in Human Resource Management from Saint Mary's. In 2010, Chris attained the Level 4-Advanced Level Coaching certificate from USA Hockey. Dan Rudd - Director, Hockey Programs

Dan Rudd joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education as a Programming Intern in the spring of 2007. Dan attended DeSales University where he majored in Sport Management and played four years on the school's club ice hockey team. Dan was then hired full time in 2009 to run Snider’s programming in New Jersey at the Pennsauken Skate Zone. Since then he has overseen the creation and growth of the Snider DVHL program and focused on overall hockey program development. Additionally, he has coached various Snider travel teams from the Squirt to the Midget level. Dan holds USA Hockey Level 5 “Master” coaching accreditation and has completed USA Hockey’s Hockey Director Certification Course and acts as Snider's DVHL rep and USA Hockey registrar. Sam Napierkowski - Senior Manager, Education Programs

Sam Napierkowski joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education as one of the organization’s first Academic Interns in the spring of 2013. Following her internship, Sam was hired as an Academic Assistant at Scanlon Recreation Center. In the spring of 2015, she was promoted to Coordinator, Postsecondary Success and oversaw the further development of programming and initiatives to support Snider’s oldest students with their future educational or professional success. Since then, there has been a lot of growth in programming. She is currently the Senior Manager of Education Programs and now oversees Academic Programs, which provided supplemental educational opportunities to Snider Hockey students, along with tutoring support; Middle School Programs, which supports students during the high school selection process; High School Programs, which helps our student explore and plan out their plan after high school graduation; and Alumni Program, which supports Snider Alumni in completing postsecondary education and finding a career. Sam grew up in Philadelphia – only minutes away from Scanlon – and attended J.R. Masterman High School. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Urban Studies. Gil Schaffer - Senior Manager, Life Skills Programs

Gil Schaffer joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in January 2011 as an Intern. Following his graduation from Rutgers University in May 2011 with a B.S. in Exercise Science and Sport Studies, he was promoted to Coach. In January 2012, Gil was hired full-time as Coordinator, Hockey Programs and began supervising Snider programs at the Flyers Skate Zone in Pennsauken, NJ. In the following years he was promoted to Senior Coordinator and then Manager of Hockey Programs, managing Site Coordinators of Tarken, Scanlon and Pennsauken as well as leading Coach Development. In 2019, Gil became the Team Leader of Life Skills Programs. As Senior Manager, he is responsible for leading Snider’s Life Skills Programs team. 

Gil has over 28 years of hockey experience both playing and coaching, and has been a natural leader on and off the ice. Gil finished his high school career as Steinert High School's all-time leading goal scorer, and went on to Rutgers University where he was named team captain following his sophomore season. He captained the team to its first two ACHA - Division 1 National Championships appearances in consecutive seasons. Gil is a USA Hockey Level 5 Master certified coach and was named the 2019 USA Hockey Atlantic District Youth Coach of the Year. Gregg Caldaro - Specialist, Equipment & Facilities

Gregg Caldaro joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in 2008 as a Coach, establishing the After School Excellence Program at Simons Recreation Center and Scanlon Ice Rink. Gregg was promoted to Coordinator, Hockey Operations in August 2012 to assist the foundation with ice rink related operations and maintenance projects. Hilary Maggio - Specialist, Community Resources

Hilary Maggio joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in 2014 as a College Counselor. In September 2017, she was promoted to Coordinator, High School Programs. In April 2018, she transitioned into a new role as Specialist, Community Resources. Hilary received her B.A. in Urban Studies and Sociology from Temple University in 2009, and returned to Temple for graduate school where she received her Master's Degree in Social Work in 2015. While in graduate school, Hilary focused on clinical social work, with a particular concentration on health and mental health in communities impacted by mass incarceration. Hilary is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) with over 10 years of youth development experience, and prior to joining Snider full-time worked in a number of alternative education programs as well as outpatient mental health and substance abuse settings. She is excited to develop programming and referral sources to meet the holistic needs of our students and families. Hilary can be reached at

Jake Scott - Specialist, Data & Evaluation

Jake Scott joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education as a Programming Intern in the fall of 2015. Originally from Michigan, Jake played Division III college tennis at Kalamazoo College, where he received his B.A. in Mathematics and Computer Science. Previously Jacob also worked as an Assistant Tournament Director for the USTA Boys National Championship hosted in Kalamazoo. Following his internship with Snider in 2015, Jake worked remotely as a Program Assistant focusing on data projects and student retention before joining Snider full time as Coordinator, Data & Program Metrics in the summer of 2017. Most recently, Jake was promoted to Specialist, Data & Program Metrics. An avid Detroit sports fan, Jake is currently continuing his education at Temple University working towards his Masters Degree in Sports Business and Analytics. Summer Haran - Chief Development Strategist

Summer Haran joined the Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education Development staff in June 2019. Prior to her time at Snider, Summer worked for three professional Philadelphia sports teams. As a public relations intern for the Philadelphia Flyers, she worked on the 2018-19 media guide, game notes and media briefings. She was also on the public relations game day staff for the Philadelphia 76ers and Philadelphia Wings. Summer graduated from the University of Delaware in 2018 with a B.A. in Communications. She gained experience in the sports industry working as a communications assistant in Delaware’s athletic department for various sports. Summer has also spent time interning for the Sixers Youth Foundation, working towards providing support to underserved communities. Summer can be reached at

Hannah Babcock - Manager, Girls Hockey Programs

Hannah Babcock joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in 2022 from the epitome of hockey towns, Lake Placid, NY, home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. After playing varsity hockey at Northwood School, she attended Middlebury College, graduating with a BA in Psychology. Hannah has worked as a teacher and hockey coach at Rumsey Hall School, Admissions Director at National Sports Academy, and most recently as the Operations Manager at a small business in Mt. Airy called Queenie’s Pets. Having finally settled in Philadelphia with her family, Hannah is excited to share her deep love of hockey and her community with others. Hannah can be reached at

Zack Damico - Manager, Travel Hockey Programs

Zack Damico joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education as an Intern during the summer of 2010 and was promoted to Coach in the fall of 2010. He took a leading role at Simons Recreation Center and was an Assistant Coach of Snider’s inaugural Bantam B U14 DVHL team. Zack was promoted to Manager, Hockey Programs in July, 2017. He currently oversees the DVHL travel program for Snider. Zack has over 20 years of experience playing and coaching ice hockey. He played travel and high school hockey growing up in Western Pennsylvania and went on to play club ice hockey at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated with a B.S. in Sports Management. Zack has coached at all levels from Mite to collegiate women’s hockey. He also earned his Level 5 - Master Coaching Education Program certification in Lake Placid from USA Hockey in 2018. Ryan McCanney - Manager, Program Delivery

Ryan McCanney joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in January of 2013 as a Programming Intern. After graduating from Neumann University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Sports & Entertainment Management, he was promoted to Coach. After receiving many opportunities in a leadership role on and off the ice, Ryan was promoted to the Assistant Site Coordinator of Hockey Operations at the Laura Sims Skate House. In October 2015, Ryan was promoted to Coordinator, Hockey Programs and became the Site Coordinator at Laura Sims Skate House. Along with managing program delivery across all Snider rinks, Ryan oversees the Snider Hockey League (SHL). For the past 4 years, Ryan has also been part of our DVHL coaching staff and helped lead the Snider Bantam A team to an Atlantic District Finals appearance in 2017. Bridgett Wilkerson - Manager, Community Outreach

Bridgett Wilkerson joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education as Community Outreach Manager in 2021. In this newly created role, Bridgett is focused on building relationships and driving student recruiting for Snider. Bridgett is a graduate of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania where she earned her Bachelor of Arts In English. Prior to joining Snider, Bridgett spent numerous years working in the Philadelphia public and charter schools as a Teacher, Case Manager, Learning Support Specialist, and Project Manager. Nick Allison - Senior Coordinator, Hockey Programs

Nick Allison joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in 2012 as a Coach at the Flyers Skate Zone in Pennsauken, NJ. In 2015, Nick was promoted to Assistant Site Coordinator. Nick helped lead our Bantam A team to Snider's first Atlantic District Championship. For the past two seasons Nick has coached at the Peewee level where in 2017 he led his Peewee A team to the Atlantic District Championships. Along with everything he does for Snider, Nick has also helps coach at the Atlantic District Developmental Camps. Erin Robinson - Senior Coordinator, Middle School Programs

Erin Robinson joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in 2017. She received her undergraduate degree from Widener University and her graduate degree in Social Work from Boston University. She works with Snider middle school students and their families as they navigate the high school selection process and begin the next steps in their academic careers. Erin also oversees as the Breakaway Scholarship, working with new applicants and returning scholars. Erin can be reached at

Zaine Taff - Senior Coordinator, Database Management & Analytics

Zaine Taff joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education as a part-time Program Assistant, Data & Program Metrics in May of 2019. Originally from Texas, Zaine graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Sport Management in May of 2018. An avid traveler and sports enthusiast, he decided to leave Texas to continue his education at Temple University. In December he will complete his Master’s Degree in Sport Business and Analytics. After 3 months as a part-time assistant he was promoted to his current position of full-time Coordinator, Data & Program Metrics in August of 2019. Matt Berry - Coordinator, Simons Recreation Center

Matt Berry joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in January of 2018 as a hockey coach and was promoted later that year to Assistant Site Coordinator, where he oversaw Snider programming at Rizzo Rink. Matt then moved to a leadership role at Simons Recreation Center while also coaching a Snider DVHL Squirt travel team. He was promoted to Site Coordinator at Simons Recreation Center in July of 2022. Matt studied at Duquesne University where he graduated with a double major in Sports Marketing and Finance. Frank Buggey - Coordinator, High School Programs

Frank Buggey joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in June 2019 as a High School Postsecondary Counselor at Scanlon Ice Rink, following the completion of his M.S. in Higher Education Policy and Student Affairs degree at West Chester University. While completing his Master's Degree, Frank supported and worked with WCU students on academic probation, focusing on academic coaching and success strategies. Frank is a lifelong resident of Philadelphia growing up in Fishtown and is a high school graduate of the Academy at Palumbo. In November 2019, Frank was promoted to High School Programs Coordinator, and is excited to support Snider high school students while they develop their individualized postsecondary plans. Stephen Cavaliere - Coordinator, Life Skills

Stephen Cavaliere joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in 2020 as a Coach at Laura Sims Skate House and Class of 1923 Arena at UPenn where he assisted with after school on-ice programming and summer camps. Steve attended and graduated from Temple University where he studied Elementary and Special Education. He then went on to teach at public schools and summer camps in the Greater Philadelphia Area. In 2022, Steve was promoted to Coordinator, Life Skills where he will oversee life skills activities and initiatives for Snider. Anne Cleary - Coordinator, Service Learning
Anne Cleary joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in October 2022 as Service Learning Coordinator. Prior to her time with Snider, Anne gained hands-on experience in interpersonal communication development through several internships with nonprofits and sports organizations across the Philadelphia region. As a former public relations intern with Comcast Spectacor, Anne worked directly with the Philadelphia Flyers, Philadelphia Wings and Wells Fargo Center during the 2021-2022 season. Anne also currently serves as a game day staff member with the Communications team for the Philadelphia Eagles. She graduated with a B.A. in public relations from Temple University in 2022. 
Anne grew up playing ice hockey for the West Chester Quakers and West Chester East High School. In 2009, her family began a learn-to-skate clinic at their local ice rink for students with special needs. Anne is excited to be part of the Snider team and looks forward to bringing her passion for ice hockey and dedication to youth development into her role. Anne can be reached directly at 
Joe Dorety - Coordinator, Tarken Recreation Center

Joe Dorety joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education as a student in 2006 and continued to play hockey with the Foundation up until he graduated from high school in 2012. Joe started coaching with Snider in 2014 at Tarken Recreation Center, where he led one of the Squirt teams in the Snider Hockey League. He also spent 2016, 2017 and 2018 coaching Peewee and Bantam teams in the DVHL. Joe was promoted to Assistant Coordinator at Tarken in 2015 and is now Site Coordinator at Tarken for the 2021-22 season. Joe is also an active member in the Alumni section of the Snider Leadership Council, where he mentors high school students who also participate in the Leadership Council.  He looks forward to continue building on the relationships he has with Snider families and to make new relationships with future participants. Joe can be reached at 

Colin Fafara - Coordinator, Penn Ice Rink & Goaltenders

Colin Fafara joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in 2014 as a Coach, has coached numerous DVHL teams, served as Site Coordinator at Rizzo Rink, and led efforts to standardize goalie training. Colin is a graduate of Temple University, where he majored in Sport & Recreation Management. He was promoted to Coordinator, Hockey Programs in 2018 to be Site Coordinator for the Class of 1923 Arena at UPenn as Snider expands operations there, and will also oversee goaltender development across the entire organization. Raul Figueroa - Coordinator, Scanlon Recreation Center

Raul Figueroa joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in 2010 as a student. After graduating from the program in 2011, Raul joined the Snider Scanlon Recreation Center staff as a Coach. He spent the next six years coaching the Squirts and Peewees in the Snider Hockey League. In 2017, Raul was promoted to Assistant Site Coordinator at Scanlon for his commitment and dedication to Snider he displayed as a member of the coaching staff. He served as Assistant Site Coordinator for two years before being promoted to Site Coordinator at Scanlon in July, 2019. Raul’s hire marks the first time a Snider Alumni has joined the foundation's full-time staff. With over twenty years of hockey experience, Raul has enjoyed the many relationships he has formed and he is excited to continue building connections as Site Coordinator at Scanlon. Caitlin Filiato - Coordinator, Research & Impact

Caitlin Filiato joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in Fall of 2021 as the part-time Program Assistant for Data and Evaluation. In May 2022, Caitlin was promoted to Coordinator of Research & Impact after graduating with her M.S. in Social Policy from the University of Pennsylvania that same month. Caitlin graduated with her B.A. in International Business & Management and Spanish Magna Cum Laude in 2019 and worked in development in New York City prior to this position. Growing up as a competitive figure skater, Caitlin knows how impactful skating can be and hopes to assist programming efforts to foster inclusive rink communities and a love of skating, both of which have served her well in her professional and adult life. Julianna Hankinson - Coordinator, Content Engagement

Julianna Hankinson joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education as a Photography & Media Intern in January 2019. After graduating cum laude from Saint Joseph’s University with a B.S. in Sociology, she was hired as a part-time Program Assistant, Photography & Media. Julianna is passionate about creating quality visual content that educates and inspires. Previously, Julianna has worked with the American Cancer Society, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and various smaller non-profit organizations on internship and freelance projects. In September 2019, Julianna was promoted to her current position of full time Coordinator, Content Engagement. Gillian Jackson - Coordinator, Laura Sims Skate House

Gillian joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education as a participant in 2008. When she graduated high school in 2014, she immediately started coaching with Snider at her home rink, Laura Sims Skate House. During her time at the rink, Gillian strived to learn as much as possible about on and off-ice rink operations. She took over the role of Equipment Manager while also studying to obtain her Level 4-Advanced Level Coaching certificate from USA Hockey. While on the ice, Gillian helped coach the Sims Snider Hockey League Bantam team and helped coach the goalies for Snider’s Girls Travel teams. After being with the organization for 13 years, Gillian was promoted to Site Coordinator at Laura Sims Skate House in 2021 and is excited to lead Snider programming at the rink that has always had a soft spot in her heart. Ronn Jakubovic - Coordinator, Academic Achievement

Ronn Jakubovic joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in January 2022 as the Coordinator for Academic Achievement. After graduating from the University of Michigan in 2007 with a degree in psychology, he joined Teach for America who sent him to serve on the Texas-Mexico border. Following his service, he relocated to North Carolina where he was a teacher and department chair at a juvenile rehabilitation center and then a local middle school. From 2014 to 2018, he was the Director of Education for one of the largest and most successful Sylvan Learning Centers in the country. Although he grew up just outside Pittsburgh, he relocated to Philadelphia in 2019 in order to work in early childhood learning. A firm advocate for lifelong learning, he has personally taught over 20 different subjects and overseen all content programs for students ages 4 to post-graduate. Ronn can be reached at

Katherine Judge - Coordinator, Youth Development

Katherine Judge joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in March 2022 as Youth Development Coordinator. Prior to Snider, Katherine worked with youth and families as both an outpatient and school based clinical therapist in Wilmington, DE. Katherine was a Division 1 lacrosse captain at Winthrop University, where she graduated with a social work degree. Katherine moved to Philadelphia and received her Master's Degree in clinical social work from the University of Pennsylvania. Katherine can be reached at

Maria Marx - Coordinator, Postsecondary Education

Maria joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in November 2021 as the Coordinator of Postsecondary Education. Prior to Snider, Maria worked in student life at Goals & Assists partner school, Neumann University, supporting and mentoring students through their college careers and providing co-curricular opportunities for personal development. She also served as an adjunct professor of Social Work at Neumann. Maria graduated from the University of Scranton with a Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling and Human Services and from Boston College with a Master's Degree in Social Work. Liz Touchstone - Coordinator, Career Success

Liz Touchstone joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in the fall of 2019 as a Life Skills Coach at Scanlon after wrapping up her career as a teen leadership development professional for a YMCA residential summer camp. In September of 2021, Liz shifted gears to a full-time role with the Life Skills team, as the Career Success Coordinator. Liz has earned her Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, and a Master's Degree in Social Work, both from Temple University. With a devotion to youth development and a deeply rooted love for the city of Philadelphia, Liz will work to develop meaningful partnerships, events, and opportunities for Snider that will help our student-athletes discover their passions and advance future employment goals. Jen Whelan - Coordinator, Introductory Programs

Jen Whelan joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education in June of 2008 as a Programming Intern and was promoted later that year to a Coach at the Scanlon recreation center. In 2015, Jen was promoted to Assistant Site Coordinator at Scanlon where she specialized in the Learn to Skate and Learn to Play programs. Throughout her time with Ed Snider Hockey & Education she has also served as an Office Assistant, Volunteer Coordinator, Nutrition and Healthy Living Coach. For the past 10 years, Jen has been part of our MAWHA and DVHL coaching staff. She helped lead the 14U A Girls Travel team to a MAWHA Championship in 2021. Currently she is the head coach of the Girls 16UAA team.

Jen studied at SUNY Cortland where she graduated with a Sports Management Degree and played NCAA Division III Hockey all four years. Growing up she played youth travel hockey with the Princeton Tiger Lilies and Lady Patriots organizations where she made four National Championship appearances. She has worked with hundreds of Snider Students over the years on improving their skills and self-confidence. Alex Brown - Development Strategist

Alex Brown joined Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education as a Program Assistant in 2017 to lead a variety of different administrative and communication efforts, while also assisting with numerous special events. In 2021, Alex was promoted to Development Strategist where he will support the Development team by assisting with ongoing donor engagement projects, grant research, online auctions, and special event coordination. He will also oversee and manage the Snider suite at the Wells Fargo Center. Alex is a 2015 graduate of Ithaca College with a degree in Communication and Media Studies. Prior to joining Snider, he worked for the Wilmington Blue Rocks for two seasons. Alex is looking forward to expanding Mr. Snider's vision by using his new Development role to generate support for Snider's programs. Alex can be reached at
