A full summer for Snider continues as Camino Farms hosted our first overnight camp. From July 13 to 17, Snider students received a chance to build friendships and try new activities while stepping outside their comfort zone.
While hockey remained at the heart of the week, the experience at Camino Farms gave students the opportunity to discover something new, both on and off the ice. After a fun Monday morning ice session at Class of 1923, students and coaches headed to Camino Farms, where they were welcomed with lunch, swag, and the itinerary for the week.
For five days, campers were introduced to everything Camino Farms has to offer. Divided into four groups, students rotated through activities including art, animal, and music therapy, pickleball, soccer, basketball, and yoga. Each activity brought its own opportunity for teamwork, creativity, and personal growth, allowing campers to step outside of the hockey environment with experiences some may not have encountered before.
The farm also gave students plenty of moments to enjoy each others presence and challenge themselves. Early mornings brought runs, card games, playground fun and lounging on the porches, while afternoons offered pool time, and opportunities to explore the farm.
Even with so many new experiences off the ice, hockey remained a familiar part of each day. While one group headed to the Hatfield Ice for practice with Snider coaches, the other took part in Camino’s activities before transitioning. On the ice, campers competed in high-tempo, game-like drilled designed to maximize reps and challenge them in new ways.
As the days went on, it became clear that the experience was about more than a schedule of activities. Nights brought campers together for dinner, games, movie night, and bonfires. After watching a video recap of the week’s highlights, students were recognized during Camper Awards for embodying one of Camino’s values.
By the time the week came to an end, Snider students had experienced much more than they anticipated going into their first overnight trip. They tried new things, challenged themselves, spent time with their teammates and coaches, and created memories away from the rink. What began as five days at Camino Farms became an unforgettable experience for Snider students.
