Of course, Snider has impacted my life through hockey, but also by providing me with the opportunity to get a great education at Archbishop Ryan High School. I went from not wanting to attend my old high school because of bullying and safety concerns due to a bullet going through the school’s window, to never wanting to miss a day at my new school. I no longer fear going to school and I am doing great this year.

I like how many clubs are offered at Archbishop Ryan. I am currently a member of the robotics club and the hockey team. When I’m in robotics I learn how to build and I’m able to take home materials so I can build Lego cars. Being part of the hockey team teaches me how to be a better player and teammate. I also volunteer with the robotics club at my sister’s school where I share what I learn to younger kids.

With the help of Snider, I became more than just a product of my environment. I am proud of how I took control of my life.

Snider enhanced my perception of education by teaching me to have the mindset that we are always learning, whether it be at school, on the ice, or elsewhere. This mindset is what encouraged me to pursue higher education, which I didn’t anticipate in high school.

Since high school, I had dreams of attending West Chester University, but I was not initially accepted. Coach Sam encouraged me to attend the Community College of Philadelphia (CCP) after I graduated high school. I excelled at CCP and enjoyed furthering my education. Once I earned my associate’s degree, I was blessed to be awarded the Goals and Assists Scholarship to attend West Chester University, which was a dream come true.

I received the Game Ready Scholarship and the Goals and Assists Scholarship, which allows me to graduate with little to no debt from university. After this semester, I am very proud to say that I will be the first person in my family to graduate from college.

My Snider tutors always take the time to explain new things and help me correct my mistakes. They help me understand things that were hard for me when school was remote learning. Grammar and math were most difficult for me this school year. My tutors help me understand my homework assignments and prepare for tests better. They are also always available to help in any way and are flexible with my sports schedule. One thing that I am most proud of this year is that I performed better on my national tests, and my math scores improved a lot.”

I have been with the Snider program for a long time and have been playing with a handful of my teammates since kindergarten. We have formed close friendships both on and off the ice. To me, hockey means friendly competition with my friends. My favorite part about hockey is how quickly the momentum of the game changes. Being a hockey player has taught me how to get along and work effectively with others, which continues to develop my communication skills.

My biggest accomplishment was making the USA Hockey Atlantic District Player Development program and being chosen to travel to Sweden. This exposed me to a new, more intense level of hockey.

Snider has taught me that you have to work towards things that you want in life and although, sometimes you might not get it, you have to keep at it.

My dad often refers to Snider as a miracle for my brothers and me because it has given us lifelong friends, goal-oriented learning, and academic support that we don’t have at school. Snider provides us with once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, including helping us go to high school and college, which we would not have been able to afford otherwise. Snider shows me how important an education, grades, and work-ethic are throughout adulthood. As a first-generation college student, I was always told that college would be important to securing a good job and being financially stable, but I never understood how to get there.

I chose to attend Neumann University for many reasons, including the Business program, the Women’s Ice Hockey team, and the resources on campus. Neumann’s location also offers a lot of opportunities for internships and continued involvement with Snider as an Alumni, which will ensure that I have a variety of career options in the future.

My biggest accomplishment this year was winning the 2020 Ed Snider Leadership Award. The achievement makes me feel hope for the future, which I have consistently strived to achieve. As a participant in the organization, I always find it imperative to hold myself to the high standard that my family and Snider have held me to throughout my life. I know that I will experience important life lessons in college that I will be able to pass down to students who follow in my footsteps.

The support and incentive that Snider provides students has helped me grow as a fully- rounded person that can empathize, compete, and grow with others, all of which are important in establishing myself in adulthood.”
