The Philadelphia Flyers honored their late founder on what would have been his 92nd birthday with the Ed Snider Legacy Game on Thursday, January 9. Students from Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education were invited to attend the game, cheer on the Flyers from the players’ bench during warm-ups, participate in Mites on Ice, shadow Flyers employees throughout the evening, and more!
Flyers players arrived to the Wells Fargo Center wearing orange Snider travel jerseys to show their support for Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education. Each player signed their jersey, which will be put up for auction to benefit Snider programs!
Prior to puck drop, over 25 Snider high school and alumni took part in a unique job shadowing experience. Flyers employees donated their time to show our students around the Wells Fargo Center and give them a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to host an NHL regular season game. Participating students learned about Flyers gameday operations and received career guidance from professionals in departments such as Ticket Sales, Building Operations, Marketing, Social Media, Community Relations, and Flyers Charities.
Snider students were invited to take part in a variety of activities before and during the game, including cheering on the Flyers from the bench during team warm-ups, handing out high-fives to players, standing on the blue line during the National Anthems, riding the zambonis during intermissions, and participating in Mites on Ice!
In addition to providing our students with once-in-a-lifetime experiences, the Flyers continued to express their support for Snider through a $300,000 donation from Flyers Charities. This donation will provide significant upgrades to the existing city rinks where Snider provides after school programming. This donation will be matched 2:1 by the Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education Support Organization bringing the total donation to $900,000!
Thank you to the Philadelphia Flyers for honoring the legacy of Ed Snider and providing Snider students with an experience they will never forget.
